Details

  • The NOLA Energy Challenge is a voluntary energy benchmarking program available to properties located in New Orleans. The competition helps participants understand their energy use and improve their building’s energy efficiency. A committee of volunteers from the engineering academic, government, architecture, and private sectors oversees this program under the leadership of the City of New Orleans’ Office of Resilience and Sustainability.

  • The purpose of this challenge is to help buildings lower their operating expenses and increase their bottom line by better managing their energy consumption. Benchmarking helps raise awareness while promoting informed decision-making for positive impacts on economic decisions. Energy efficiency is the most cost-effective approach for making buildings more competitive. These benchmarking activities also help properties to improve indoor air quality, lower operating costs, and lower energy costs for commercial and multifamily tenants while competing for industry recognition and awards.

  • This is a voluntary program, so there are no mandatory requirements at this time. Any non-single-family-residential structure within the Orleans Parish is eligible to participate.

  • The city requires building owners to report their energy usage annually via the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool by the end of the contest period.

  • All energy utilities including electricity, natural gas, district energy, and any other purchased fuel type used to operate your building.

  • Building owners must report their energy usage data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.
