Longmont Energy Benchmarking

The City of Longmont has the following voluntary energy benchmarking program for certain large properties.

Fast facts:

  • Voluntary program

  • 20,000+ sq. ft. commercial and industrial properties

Details

  • Building energy benchmarking lets you compare your building to similar building types in similar climates so that you can see whether its energy use is above average, below average, or on par. To do this, a participant inputs basic building data and 12 months of electric and natural gas usage information into the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager to calculate a score and submits the results to LPC.

  • Building energy benchmarking can have a number of benefits, including:

The ability to see opportunities for greater energy efficiency and prioritize those improvements.

A better net operating income by acting on those opportunities. Nationwide, businesses that benchmark see an average savings of 2.4% on their annual energy costs.

A property that is more attractive to tenants and more comfortable for employees.

  • If you own or manage any commercial or industrial building of at least 20,000 square feet, you are eligible to participate. This is a voluntary program, so there are no mandatory requirements at this time.

  • All energy utilities including electricity, natural gas, district energy, and any other purchased fuel type used to operate your building.

  • Building owners must report their energy usage data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.
